DOVER, Del. - Wesley College received two goals apiece from Sammi Nevin (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and Kim Fearnbach (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and the Wolverine defense held Valley Forge Christian (4-10) to just two shots in a 5-0 win.
Nevin scored the game-winner midway through the seventh minute on a breakaway as she and Fearnbach took turns on Wesley's (3-11-1) first four goals. Fearnbach added a goal in the 28th minute off an assist from Jessie Nino (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Nevin's second goal gave the Wolverines a 3-0 advantage at the half.
Fearnbach added another score in the second half before Kasey Lynn (Orangeville, Pa./Central Columbia) finished things for the Wolverines in the 63rd minute.
All of the offense and the stingy defense made for an easy evening for goalkeeper Sydney Kahan (Cranston, R.I./Cranston), who needed just one save for the shutout.
Akinna Boykin stopped 16 shots for the Patriots, who were outshot 33-2 in the match.
The Wolverine offense has come to life in the last two matches, tallying nine total goals after scoring six in the previous 12.
Wesley travels to Goucher on October 23.
