FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Wesley College took an early 1-0 lead, but Mary Washington battled back for a 2-1 win over the Wolverines in overtime in Capital Athletic Conference men's soccer action.
Wesley went ahead in the 23rd minute when Kyle Long (Delaware, Ohio/Buckeye) scored through the goalkeeper's hands off a corner kick. The goal was the 21st of his career, tying him for seventh all-time with Derek Roberts-Dukes. It also gave him 48 career points, tying Brian Jazczak for 10th all-time.
The score stood that way until Cory Sims headed a ball from Nick Shepherd late in the 84th minute to send the game into overtime.
In the extra period, the Eagles' Tommy Sangbouasy found the back of the net to end the contest at 93:47.
Mark Mattern (Carney, Md./Kenwood) made three saves for Wesley in regulation, before Brian Zuber (Wenonah, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) came on in overtime and stopped one shot. Mary Washington's Tyler Black made three saves.
The Eagles outshot the Wolverines 13-8 in the contest.
Wesley concludes the regular season with a home match against Albright on October 25.
