Hot Start Propels Wolverines to Second Straight Win

DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College Men's Lacrosse team got off to a fast start and rode their lead to a 13-8 victory over Johnson and Wales University on Wednesday afternoon. 

Cody Ireland earned the win in goal with seven saves while Eric Bohns led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Nate Gemmato scooped a game-high 12 ground balls, winning 11-of-20 faceoffs. Sam Seibert finished with five goals and Jack Redefer and Will Fingles each netted three. Joe Fingles scored once and dished off a game-high three assists.

Wesley jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter, scoring early and often. Seibert netted the first goal of the game just 44 seconds into the contest. A few minutes later Seibert netted his second, this time a man-up score. Redefer and Will Fingles each scored before Seibert found the goal for the third time, making it 5-0 just before the quarter break. 

The Wildcats netted three straight to open the second quarter, but Seibert continued to prop up the Wesley offense with another score, making it 6-3. JWU scored their fourth goal before the halftime whistle, but the Wolverines held onto their lead at the break.

In the second half, the visitors cut the Wesley lead to one goal nearly halfway through the third quarter. Wesley responded with a 3-1 run to cap the quarter. Seibert and Redefer each scored again before JWU netted another. In the final seconds, the Fingles Brothers connected for a score. Joe zipped a pass across the crease to Will who snapped a shot past the JWU goalie to make it 9-6. In the final frame, Wesley outscored the Wildcats 4-2, with Redefer, Will Fingles, and Hunter Coho each scoring insurance goals.

Wesley improves to 2-2 on the season and will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Bridgewater.
