HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Lauren Mears scored a pair of early goals to lead the Wesley College field hockey team to a 4-2 victory over Wooster College in the conclusion of the Juniata Tournament at Knox Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines even their record at 1-1 on the season while the Fighting Scots dropped their season opener.
A junior from Princess Anne, Md., Mears scored at 4:41 and 6:04 for her first career multi-goal game, and gave Wesley a 2-0 lead. Brittany Blacksten added another goal just over 20 minutes later to increase the Wolverines' lead to three.
Kayla Fromal got the start between the cage and earned the victory, stopping five shots in the first 35 minutes despite allowing a goal with 1:19 left in the first half. Sarah Daniels came in to play the second half and gave up a goal nearly four minutes in but an unassisted tally by her sister, Gracie Daniels at 64:46 put the icing on the cake for Wesley.
The Wolverines return to action on Thursday, September 5, when they host McDaniel at 7 pm.
