Wesley Honors First Seniors

DOVER, Del. - Wesley College honored the first four-year seniors in the history of the Division III volleyball program before finishing up their season against Mary Washington.

Before the match, the Wolverines held a brief ceremony for their two pioneering senior captains:  Nettie Choice (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) and Lilia Brekke (Prescott, Ariz./Caesar Rodney (Del.)).  Between the two of them, they occupy top spot in career kills, blocks, digs, and aces.

On the court, Mary Washington took three straight sets from the youthful Wolverines, who outside of their two seniors are comprised completely of freshmen and sophomores.

The Eagles jumped ahead 7-0 in the first set and went on to claim a 25-16 win.  In the second set, the Wolverines ran into some stellar service game from UMW's Ellen Smethurst, who kept the Eagles in control for the final 13 points for a 25-6 win.  Mary Washington then finished off Wesley with a 25-13 win in the final set.

Choice and Brekke close their careers with eight of the top 10 single season kill totals and five of the top six single season block totals.

Wesley finishes the 2009 season with a record of 8-22 overall and 1-7 in the CAC.

Complete statistics will be posted when they become available.
