Talarico, Taswell Named All-Region

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Wesley College sophomores Craig Taswell and Nick Talarico were named to the 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region team.

Taswell (Lanham, Md./Duvall), a midfielder, was named the ECAC and CAC Player of the Week after leading Wesley to a pair of shutout conference wins against Marymount and Hood and also added a goal and an assist against the Blazers.  He finished the year with one goal and two assists.  Taswell was also named to the all-tournament team at the RMC Select Tournament on the season's opening weekend.  He was also selected to the All-CAC first team after the season.

Talarico (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands), Wesley's sophomore goalkeeper, shared a CAC Player of the Week Award after leading the Wolverines to the championship at the RMC Select Tournament, where he was named the Most Outstanding Player.  He also had a huge game for Wesley in the CAC Semifinals, stopping a career-high 16 shots in the game, then three more in a shootout as the Wolverines advanced past No. 2 York to the CAC Championship.  He finished the year second in the CAC in save percentage and saves and earned a place on the all-conference second team.

Wesley was one of four Capital Athletic Conference schools with players named to the NSCAA All-South squad and just national power York (Pa.) had more than the Wolverines with six all-region picks.  Wesley matched Salisbury with two players, while the University of Mary Washington had one selection.

Wesley finished 11-8-3 overall and 5-3-1 in the CAC in 2008.  The Wolverines advanced past then undefeated and untied York in the CAC Semifinals in a shootout and were the conference runner-up.  The team also qualified for the ECAC South Regional.
