Wesley Downs Hood 3-0
DOVER, Del. - Sophomore defender Craig Taswell had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 victory over visiting Hood in Capital Athletic Conference play.
Taswell (Latham, Md.) scored what proved to be the game-winner with his first score of 2008 at the 12:04 mark after a Wesley (8-3-2, 4-1-1 CAC) corner.
He then took a ball deep into the Hood (4-9, 1-4 CAC) defense before leading Chris Phillips (Delmar, Md.) who scored his first career goal at 38:16 after beating the Blazers' Shawn Fernholz to Taswell's lead.
Wesley's final goal was the first of the year for junior Dom Citino. Evan Day (Sewell, N.J.) came down the left side and led Citino who beat Fernholz low into the right center of the net.
In addition to his strong offensive day, Taswell helped anchor a Wolverine defense that limited Hood to just six total shots, including only three on goal.
Nick Talarico (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) and Tom Mikulski (Nutley, N.J.) each played a half in goal. Talarico made three saves during the first half, while Mikulski went untested in the final 45 minutes.
Fernholz had four saves in the losing effort.
The win improved Wesley's unbeaten streak to eight matches. The Wolverines are 6-0-2 over that time.
Wesley takes a break from CAC play with a non-conference match against Delmarva rival Washington College on Tuesday, October 14 at 7:00 PM.
