Wesley Ousted from Playoffs

SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury's Kristina Fusco converted a penalty stroke in the first half and another in the second as the second ranked Sea Gulls defeated Wesley 2-1 in the CAC Semifinals.
Wesley (12-9) outshot Salisbury (15-1) 3-1 in the early going. Then in the 13th minute, Brooke Bennett (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) made a defensive save before the Sea Gulls were awarded their first of two penalty strokes of the evening. Fusco converted for the first score of the day at 12:39, but Salisbury's lead did not last long.
It lasted just 16 seconds to be exact. Sophomore Sheree Pleasanton (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) broke down the middle of the field and struck the ball off the back of the cage to tie the contest at 1-1 with her seventh score of the season.
Neither team had a shot for nearly 15 minutes of play after Pleasanton's tally, but the Wolverines' Sarah Johnson (Honeybrook, Pa./Twin Valley) turned away two Salisbury shots during the final eight minutes of the first half to preserve the tie through halftime.
The two squads went over 14 minutes without a shot to open the second half before the Sea Gulls were awarded another stroke that Fusco knocked into the goal for a 2-1 lead.
Johnson finished the game with seven saves.
Anna Cooke stopped a pair of shots in the win.
