Wolverines Split at EMU Tournament
HARRISONBURG, Va. - Wesley College split a pair of games on the first day of the Eastern Mennonite Tournament, shutting out DeSales 3-0 before falling 3-2 to the hosts.
Against DeSales, the Wolverines notched their second straight shut out with a 3-0 final. Brooke Tadlock scored Wesley's final two goals, both in the second half.
The game-winner against the Bulldogs came just 9:32 in when Stephanie Johnson converted a penalty stroke.
At 39:01, Amber Tank and Brooke Bennett set up Tadlock off one of Wesley's 11 penalty corners of the game. Just over three minutes later, Johnson fed Tadlock for a score from five yards.
Sarah Johnson stopped four shots for her second straight shutout.
In the nightcap, Wesley came from two goals down to tie the score on Sam Marconi's first goal of the season at 58:47, but Eastern Mennonite rallied for a score at 62:40 to capture the win.
Alyssa Derstine scored twice in the first 18:17 as the Royals jumped ahead 2-0. Sheree Pleasanton cut the lead in half with a score at 43:28 before Tadlock assisted on Marconi's game-tying tally 15 minutes later.
Johnson made four saves for the Wolverines, who dropped to 2-2 on the season.
Wesley completes play against at the Eastern Mennonite Tournament on Sunday, September 7 with a game against Shenandoah.
